McKenzie Bridge

Our class spent the week after Christmas in McKenzie Bridge, OR at our retreat center, St. Benedict's Lodge. Br. Daniel Thomas is the main man who runs the 80 guest "resort" where all can enjoy unending hours trying to beat Pac Man in the rec room, playing catch with Lady McKenzie, Br. Daniel's canine companion, and experiencing the showers of the C building dorm.

It snowed and it snowed and it snowed and it snowed and it snowed!

And then when it stopped snowing, it started snowing again! Luckily, we made it out of McKenzie before the Arctic blasts moved in. Leave it to Br. Gabriel to find something to do with it. Somehow Our Lady just keeps following this brother... or is he following her? Here's Br. Gabriel's snow sculpture rendition of the Blessed Virgin, a.k.a. St. Scoliosus. As the snow continued to fall I think she got top heavy and began to slouch.

The main church at St. Benedict's, which provides liturgies for McKenzie Bridge, Vida, Blue River, and the surrounding area. They're in a $300k renovation project and they are more than $200k there! Their nativity set in front of the altar was *ahum, interesting, as Fr. Anthony can attest to.
While at McKenzie Bridge, each of the brothers were assigned a day to cook dinner. Sunday night Br. Daniel fixed us up a turkey. Monday, Bros. Juan Diego and Mark Francis made enchiladas. Tuesday, Br. Matthew and Chef David made pasta with three sauces - tomato, cheese, and good ol' al olio! Wednesday, Br. Matthew's parents plowed through 6 hours of snow to cook us tri-tip steak and cedar plank salmon. Thursday, we went to have dinner with Joyce from Blue River and we licked our fingers on ribs. Friday, nobody remembers what we ate. Saturday, Br. Daniel gave us a farewell dinner that featured ham and baked yams.

The Belknap Hotsprings is just six miles down the road. For a short time we got stuck in the parking lot because we didn't have enough traction, but we managed to maneuver out. Needless to say, it was well worth the trip. We never for the life of us thought we'd be wading in hot water while snowflakes were falling. To the right is Br. Matthew "playing" with Br. John Paul.
